FKF Cup: Kakamega Homeboyz to launch title defense against fourth-tier opponent

The winners of the Kenyan domestic cup will feature in the prestigious CAF Confederation Cup

Kakamega Homeboyz, the reigning champions of the domestic cup, are set to face FKF National Division Two side Solian City FC in the Round of 32 matches of the 2024 FKF Cup, scheduled to commence in late February.

The tournament's fate was revealed during a draw ceremony held in Nairobi on Wednesday morning, attended by representatives from participating teams and Kenya football legend Edward Karanja. Sasa Krneta, Mozzart Bet Kenya Country Manager, expressed congratulations to the Football Kenya Federation for last year's successful tournament and expressed hope for an even better edition this year.

"We are very delighted to be involved once again in this tournament," said Krneta, emphasizing Mozzart Bet's continued support in the second year of their Ksh. 60 million partnership with FKF as cup sponsors. "I was keenly following last year's edition and want to confirm that we will continue to support this initiative set to grow our game."

In the draw, twelve teams were randomly selected from two pots, A and B, to participate in the preliminary round of the tournament, scheduled for the weekend of January 27-28. The winners of these six ties will advance to the Round of 32, joining the 26 teams that received a bye.

The Round of 32 matches, slated for February 24-25, will feature matchups such as Tusker against Bumbani Stars of Division Two and defending champions Gor Mahia facing Denmak FC, winners of the Rashid Super Cup last year.

"This edition has attracted teams from all over the country and will, for sure, be an interesting tournament." Said FKF Secretary General Barry Otieno.

The Round of 16 stages will follow on March 30-31, with the finals set for June 29.

The winner of this tournament will represent Kenya in the prestigious CAF Confederation Cup.
